Our Prayer
We pray for the young people that God will bring to us so that we can help raise them up "in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4).
Passing Our Faith to the Next Generation
In 2 Timothy, Paul was writing to his protege Timothy, In verse 1:5, Paul described the way in which faith in Jesus should be received, nurtured, and passed on within families. This he clearly pointed out in 2 Timothy 1:5. 'For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelled in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well."
Although the faith of one's parents does not save you, it is important to belong to a family of believers in Christ so that you can receive a firm biblical foundation. Exposing children to the truths of the Bible and the character of God is based on the Jewish tradition known as the Shema. This important Old Testament prayer, given by Moses to the Israelites, is located in Deuteronomy 6:4-9.
4 "Hear, Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! 5 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 And you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. 8 You shall also tie them as a sign to your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead. 9 You shall also write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."
