"Justifiably Sinful?" Luke 10:25-37
A Jewish lawyer wanted to justify himself by asking Jesus "Who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied with the parable of "The Good Samaritan," a people whom the Jews hated. The Samaritan was the only one to show mercy. Today there are hurting people all around us. Let us demonstrate that we love God by loving our neighbor.

"My Struggle with Slavery" Letter to Philemon
Pastor Tom, dressed as Philemon, a believer in Colossae in Asia Minor, struggled through the letter from the apostle Paul about his runaway slave, Onesimus. Onesimus, who became a believer through Paul's efforts, agreed to return to Philemon carrying Paul's letter of appeal for mercy and forgiveness. Is there anyone who has wronged us and needs forgiveness?

"All Scripture Is God-Breathed" 2 Timothy 3:10-17
Paul referred to the Old Testament since the New Testament had not yet been written and accepted. Paul asserted that God was actively involved in the writing of Scripture. For us today, these writings are God's divine revelation to the world.

"Holiness Is Our Goal" 1 Peter 1:10-16
Peter offered a three-step progression by which our salvation leads us to holiness in our lives. This passage ends with the powerful statement "because it is written: 'You shall be holy, for I am holy.' "

"Faith That Falls Short" Mark 9:14-32
A father begged Jesus to cast an evil spirit from his son. The father begged Jesus to help his unbelief. Jesus succeeded when His disciples could not. There are many things that Jesus can do for us if only we have enough faith. God changes things when we pray and prayer changes us.

"Sit at the Feet of Jesus" Luke 10:38-42
When Jesus visited Mary and Martha, Mary devoted herself to Jesus' teachings while Martha focused on serving dinner. We need to live as if Jesus is in the room ready to teach us His truths. Commit yourself to a closer walk with Jesus.

"Division Instead of Peace" Luke 12:49-53
Jesus came to bring peace but people chose to either believe in Him or not, thus leading to conflict between family members. Today it is up to us as believers to maintain relationships with nonbelieving family and friends. But our number one relationship must be with Jesus.

"Spiritual Blindness" John 9:1-41
Jesus performed many healings of blindness. Here He healed a man born blind. The Pharisees were offended because this was done on the Sabbath. The man defended Jesus but the Pharisees refused to see the truth. Today, are we spiritually blind to the truth of Jesus, the Son of God?

"Overcoming the Temptations of Life" Matthew 4:1-11
Christ demonstrated this as follows. For every temptation to sin, there is a test to conquer it; when tempted to sin, there is away out; for any temptation, we need to bring God's Word into the situation; we are to worship God and serve Him alone.

"The Workers in the Vineyard" Matthew 20:1-16
A vineyard owner hired workers at all hours of the day but paid each one a denarius. This teaches that God is generous and gracious to us in that He offers us the same salvation at all stages of life. We should not identify with the grumbling of the workers hired first.

"The Prudent and the Simple" Proverbs 22:3
The captain of the RMS Titanic ignored numerous warnings of icebergs. NASA officials ignored the warnings of engineers for the Challenger Space Shuttle. This verse warns of the difference beteen the prudent person and the naive person. Are you taking action to avoid the dangers in your life?

"Important Reminders to All Christians" 2 John 1-13
John stressed that believers already knew the truth about Jesus, that they were to love one another, observe God's commandments, be wary of deceivers, and be joyful when they met.

"The Demon-Posessed Man" Mark 5:1-20
In the Gerasenes along the Sea of Galilee, Jesus healed a demon-possessed man but the townspeople told Him to leave. Today people misunderstand the joyful, abundant life that Jesus offers. Other people receive God's blessings but are ungrateful. Let us ever be thankful for the gifts and blessings God gives us.

"The Mercy of the Savior" Mathew 9:9-38
In this passage, Jesus expressed mercy to tax collectors, gave examples of His new covenant, and displayed His mercy by healing several people in need. May we learn to seek God's mercy and understand that we can never earn it.

"The Mustard Seed" Matthew 13:31-32
A video was shown of a dancing man at an outdoor festival. He soon had a huge group dancing with him. Jesus started alone like that and, like the mustard seed, Christians have been joining Jesus "in the dance" with our numbers growing larger and larger.

"Parting Words of Peace" 2 Cor. 13:11
Pastor Jim reminisced about his years at Hillside and praised what a great congregation he is leaving behind. In this one verse, Paul encouraged believers to rejoice, be like-minded, and live in peace as a communiy of faith. Pastor Jim encouraged us to take Paul's advice to heart.

John's message is that we should not sin, but if we do, Jesus is our advocate before the Father.

We are a chosen people of God. He has called us to proclaim His excellencies and give away our faith.

"Christian Fellowship" Ephesians 6:18b-24
In this final passage, Paul wraps up this letter with prayers and encouragement for his readers, and a request to pray for him. Learn from Paul that, as God brings people into your life, don't be reluctant to pray for them.

"Philip Was Just a Guy" Acts 8:26-40
An angel sent Philip the evangelist to meet an educated Ethiopian official returning from worship at Jerusalem. Philip helped him see Jesus in a passage in Isaiah, leading the man to want to be baptized. We today are just as capable as those early believers to spread the gospel.

Paul stressed the need for "the full armor of God." He identified each item of armor and its spiritual importance for believers. We need to employ this defensive armor today.

Paul stressed that husbands were to model Christ, being "the head of the wife" but also to love their wives as themselves and to sacrifice for the good of their wives.

Paul stressed the Biblical principle of the family, especially mutual submission, love, and respect between husbands and wives.
